What to do before laser hair removal

Before we undertake Laser Hair Removal treatment, we always invite you to an initial consultation free of charge. The purpose of the consultation is to ask you a few questions about your health and lifestyle so that we can make sure that Laser Hair Removal is suitable. We then undertake a patch test on a small area of skin in order to make sure that your skin doesn’t have any adverse effects to our laser technology. If the patch test is successful we can then book you in for your laser hair removal treatment at a date and time of your suiting.

How we apply the laser hair removal

After an initial consultation and a patch test 24 hours prior to your treatment, your personal laser practitioner will prepare the area you have selected for the treatment. Once the laser machine has been prepared, the treatment head is moved over the area of skin and activated.

Laser hair removal for the full-body takes between two to three hours per session. Although an experienced practitioner can get this down to around 90 minutes.

This also varies based on your gender, size and the amount of hair you wish to remove.

What to do after the laser hair removal

In a few cases, the skin may appear slightly sore or red immediately after the treatment. The laser practitioner will apply a cooling aloe vera gel any redness will soon go down.

Many clients experience up to 90% permanent hair loss after completing a course of laser hair removal treatment. This is a dramatic and huge impact on grooming habits and routines.

Occasional top-up sessions may be required once a year or once every two years depending on the individual. Compare that with continuing to shave every few weeks or waxing.

How permanent is laser hair removal?

Laser Hair Removal is the most effective, long-term hair reduction method.  Typically you may need 6 to 8 sessions to see maximum result.  Results vary from person to person.  Top-up sessions may be required after some years.

How effective is laser hair removal?

After your first laser hair removal treatment, you will begin to notice shedding of hair.  Regrowth in the area is reduced and any new hairs come out finer and thinner to be treated at the next session.

How many sessions of laser hair removal will you need:

6-8 Sessions are recommended. This can vary depending on your skin type, hair type , hormone levels and response to laser hair treatment. You will see results after your first session. It will take several sessions to permanently remove hair spaced four to six weeks apart depending on the area treated. You should see up to 90 percent reduction in hair growth. For best results, maintenance treatments are recommended once a year for at least a couple years.

Laser hair removal side effects:

The most common side effects of laser hair removal are:

Skin irritation.

Temporary discomfort

Redness

Swelling

Pigment changes. (Laser hair removal might darken or lighten the affected skin, usually temporarily)

How does laser hair removal work:

Laser treatment affects hair in the active growth phase (anagen stage). The laser beam is made up of precisely controlled pulses of energy which are absorbed by the melanin or pigment in the hair and reaches into the active hair follicles that lie beneath the skin.

The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, safely destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin.

Most people will need a course of between 6 and 8 sessions after which time the hair will be visibly reduced or permanently removed and the skin will be smooth and even.

Will laser hair removal feel the same every time:

Some clients describe the sensation as a rubber band plucking against your skin which will be reduced with each session as there is less hair.

Where on my body can I have the laser hair removal treatment?

Laser Hair Removal is suitable for all areas on the face and body. Clients can pick full body laser hair removal or tailor-make packages for any areas they would like. Some popular single areas include face, underarm, and  Hollywood laser hair removal.

Can men have laser hair removal?

At Ana Zia Skin Care, hair removal for men is a very popular treatment.  We can treat all male skin areas and all skin types from very light to very dark.

Will Laser Hair Removal treatment make my skin sore?

After you laser hair removal treatment you may experience some redness and soreness due to the heat transmitting and permanently damaging the hair follicle but this reduces after a few hours.  Our lasers are equipped with a cooling system for maximum comfort.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

For some people there is a sensation of mild prickling but for others the experience is completely pain-free. (90% of our customers reported a pain free experience).
